Integrating Facial Reflexology into Japan’s Frailty Prevention
- Date September 25, 2025
Introduction
As populations around the world continue to age, healthcare systems are increasingly shifting their focus from treating disease to preventing functional decline before it becomes irreversible. Japan, one of the world’s leading countries in healthy longevity initiatives, has become a pioneer in developing community-based strategies that promote independence, mobility, and quality of life among older adults through early frailty prevention.
In this article, Lone Sorensen presents an exciting international collaboration between the Method Lone Sorensen and Japan’s TNC Research Institute, led by Noriyoshi and Mai Eguchi. Together, the project explores how Facial Reflexology can complement existing frailty prevention programs by combining neuro-reflex stimulation with sensory-based movement training, postural assessment, and functional neurological evaluation.
The article explains how this innovative approach is built upon current knowledge of neuroplasticity, sensory integration, and nervous system regulation. It also introduces practical evaluation methods—including postural analysis, visual field assessment, and the PATAKA oral frailty test—to help document functional changes and better understand how neuro-reflex stimulation may influence balance, coordination, cognition, and emotional well-being.
More than a description of a research collaboration, this publication represents a vision for the future of preventive healthcare. It demonstrates how complementary therapies and neuroscience can work together within structured public health programs, creating new opportunities for healthy aging, community-based prevention, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Whether you are a healthcare professional, reflexologist, researcher, or educator, this article offers an inspiring perspective on how Facial Reflexology may contribute to modern preventive medicine through measurable, evidence-informed, and person-centered approaches.
